Eshaas – e – Kamtari

In Hindu mythology, it is said that every story existing in this universe was first told by Shiva to his wife shakti. These stories filled with knowledge were overheard by birds flying in the sky, fishes swimming in the oceans, and trees standing in the jungles. They took these stories all across the world and in this manner, we were introduced to all these stories.

Consider me as a medium like birds, fishes, and trees to deliver these stories to you……

When you came into this world,

you came without a single investment.

So, whatever happens in your life,

anyway, you are in profit.

-       Sadhguru.

Once this happened Sage Satyakama was traveling from the kingdom of Magadha to his Vedic school in the majestic village of Kashi located on the banks of the holy river Ganga. As it was a very long journey, he decided to take a few days’ rest on a mountain close to the village of Sarai. As Satyakama was very famous Sage, villagers who heard about him would walk up the difficult path of that mountain to meet him.

One day Sage Satyakama saw a group of villagers sitting next to his hut waiting for their turn to meet him. He was clearly able to notice mixed emotions of stress and fear in their eyes. After finishing his morning prayers, he called them.

On reaching there, they all greeted Sage Satyakama with a warm Namaste. Every one of them wanted to talk to him about their life problems and seek solutions, so they started to fight among themselves about who would go first. Fight among them got loud and soon turned into chaos. According to every one of them, their problem was bigger than all others. Sage Satyakama watched this commotion for a while and not seeing them getting to any decision, he shouted, “Silence...”

Everyone got silent immediately. “All of you sit down in a circle and wait for a bit”, Saying this he left and came back with some sheets of paper and an empty bowl. While passing the paper to each one of them he said,” Write down a problem which you think that troubles you the most and then fold that paper and put that folded paper in this bowl” he then placed the bowl in middle.

When everyone finished their writing, then Satyakama picked up that bowl and mixed all those cheats of paper. Then he calmly handed randomly one cheat to each one of them and said,” Read this and decide if you want to replace this problem with the problem which you think troubles you the most in your life” He added, “This is your final chance read the problem and if you choose, make it your own or take back your problem.”

One by one each of them picked out a paper and read each other’s problems. When they read other’s problems they were horrified. Each one of them came to the conclusion that even their worst problem is not as worse as other person’s problem. Within minutes each of them exchanged their problems and when they finally had their original paper in hand, they felt content.

They thanked the Sage Satyakama and went on their way.

In this world of social media, the impossible standards are set much closer to home, not by celebrities and models but by classmates and friends. It is natural for anyone to feel inferior when everyone around you is showcasing a beautiful picture of a wonderful life.

In most of the cases because of these high benchmarks, our problems seem much bigger and our life seems boring and colourless. This happens mainly because consciously or unconsciously we compare our life with others through the only medium which we have which is social media. But while doing this comparison we sometimes forget to consider the fact that social media is just a glimpse of their entire life which only showcases the best parts of their life.

Maybe they also have problems, maybe their problems are quite bigger than yours and their life is not that happing or wonderful which they show you.

So, stop this comparison and be thankful for your life. After all, whatever you achieve in your life, you will always be on the profitable side!!!
